What We Look for in a Locksmith
Whether you are an experienced mobile locksmith with years of industry knowledge or someone who has just completed their locksmith apprenticeship, we want to hear from you. Here is what we typically look for:
- At least 1–2 years of locksmith experience (or recent locksmith training qualification)
- Ability to carry out emergency openings, lock changes and cylinder replacements
- DBS check (we can assist with the application process)
- Own tools and reliable van preferred
- Friendly, professional manner with residential and commercial customers
- Ability to respond quickly in your local coverage area
- Knowledge of BS3621 British Standard locks and anti-snap cylinders preferred
- Experience with UPVC multipoint locks an advantage

What qualifications do I need to become a locksmith with Keys4U?
Ideally you will have at least 1-2 years of locksmith experience and be able to demonstrate competency in emergency opening, lock changes and cylinder replacement. We also consider candidates who have completed recognised locksmith training courses such as MLA, City & Guilds or equivalent. DBS check required.
Do you accept locksmith apprentices?
Yes — we support locksmith apprenticeship pathways for those new to the trade. If you are currently undertaking locksmith training or have recently qualified, we may be able to offer a supervised role to help you build your experience.
Do I need my own van and tools?
Ideally yes — you will need a reliable van and a basic set of locksmith tools to work as a mobile locksmith with us. However, we can discuss tooling arrangements for the right candidate.
How much can I earn as a locksmith with Keys4U?
Earnings vary depending on your location, hours worked and job types. Our most active network locksmiths earn between £30,000 and £50,000 per year. Emergency and out-of-hours work typically commands higher rates.
