Living in Portsmouth
Portsmouth is a city and port on the south coast of England. Shipbuilding may have begun there in the 9th century at the time of King Alfred. We know that Portsmouth dockyard was built in 1194 because it received a Royal Charter at that time. In 1670, with the formation of the Royal Navy, Portsmouth became a Royal Dockyard.
The city has lots to offer. The centre has the usual high street shops with large and small retail outlets. There is also the Cascades Shopping Centre and Gunwharf Quays, a prime attraction because of its shops, restaurants and bars. Also at Gunwharf Quays is the Emirates Spinnaker Tower which has lovely views over the city and the Isle of Wight. If you are interested in naval history, there is a wealth of opportunities such as HMS Victory, the Mary Rose Museum, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and HMS Warrior to see. There is also a museum dedicated to the D-Day landings and a city museum and art gallery. Charles Dickens was one of many famous people born in Portsmouth, and the house in which he was born is now a museum.
The city has a university, 63 primary schools, comprising maintained schools, academies, independent and special schools. There are 19 secondary schools and eight schools or colleges catering for the 16-18 year age group. Ofstead ratings show that many of the schools are rated ‘Good’ and some ‘Outstanding’.
According to Zoopla, the average property price in Portsmouth in February 2021 was £253,099, with flats selling for an average of £182,145 and terraced houses £292,477.
If you are moving to a new home in Portsmouth, you should change the locks as soon as possible after moving in. You need to make sure that you know who has keys to the property. If you already live in the Portsmouth area, make sure that your locks and security measures are all up-to-date. In either case, call your local Keys4u locksmith in Portsmouth and ensure that your house and property are adequately protected.
