Smart Key – the future of home security

Locksmith EmbertonWell who would have thought that in the future, keys may no longer look like keys at all; but will come one day in the form of a phone!! This could well be the key (pardon the pun) to the future and a whole new way for us to secure our homes.

Smart keys for the home are still a very new idea with only a handful of companies marketing them including Goji, August and Okido to name a few but the idea is taking off at speed and for good reason too!

In short, smart keys enable you to control access to your home remotely through an application on your phone. You send a virtual key to who ever you wish that is in possession of a supported smartphone, enabling them to access your property even when you are not there, no need for keys or codes. No longer will you need to duplicate keys for the cleaner, the plumber, the dog walker, the kids etc… you get the idea!! Access can be suspended or revoked at any time and time slots can be allocated, only enabling access at certain times in the day, certain days, weeks or even a month and of course 24/7 access for family members!

Not only will you never need to duplicate a key again; or worry about having keys returned or rushing home to let someone in; but you will also never have to worry about getting locked out of your home again or losing your keys or even have to frantically search for them in your handbag (we’ve all been there!). Its state of the art technology recognizes your face automatically as you enter your property, so no need to do a thing, not even reach for your phone!!! The door will even automatically lock behind you, so you won’t have to worry about whether you remembered to lock or not. The encrypted locking technology used for these locks are more secure than traditional keys that can get lost and codes that can be copied.

This locking device is easy to install on your existing lock should you wish to revert to your old system at any time. No drilling or wiring is required. No need to rely on wi-fi or a power cable since these locks are battery powered and you’ll be notified ahead of time when the battery gets low.

This video shows you exactly how it works!
