Case Study: Safes

Passport is safe – but I can't get hold of it!

As locksmiths, we field hundreds of calls a week, 90 per cent of which are bread and butter jobs like 'I've locked myself out of the house' and 'I can't find the car keys'. But among the 10 per cent filed under 'Other' was a call from a client who had locked his passport inside the work safe but had unfortunately lost the keys. The problem was that he was about to leave for Heathrow Airport for a business trip. We were able to get to his premises, open the safe with minimal damage and courier the passport to the airport where our client was waiting and everything was resolved.

This kind of incident can be sorted easily if there is enough notice so we advise our clients to check all documents are sorted at least a day before a trip. As for the key, it is good to have it left in a place that only two or three people know about. And equally important is keeping a spare key in a place that is easy to remember. But better still is to have a safe that has more than one method of opening, for instance, key and fingerprint, or key and code. We can repair and open your safe but with a little preparation, you won't need to call us!
